The list of finalists for the 2010 NZ Radio Awards is out.
This year marks a whole new arrangement for the awards due to budget constraints, webcasting the announcement of winners later this month rather than hold the traditional function. For the same budgetary reasons, Radio New Zealand decided not to enter the awards this year, though some individual RNZ staff have entered the News categories independently, meaning it's largely a return to the days of TRN vs RadioWorks for most of the titles up for grabs.
Metro Station of the Year is a three-way race between Newstalk ZB, The Rock and ZM Wellington. More FM Northland are up against More FM Manawatu for Regional Station of the Year, while the provincial title will go to either 1XX, Times FM or More FM Taupo.
In a new category, Iwi Station of the Year, Te Hiko o te Ika (Kaitaia) competes with Nga Iwi FM (Paeroa) and Ngati Hine (Whangarei).
Familiar names and past winners dominate the individual categories. The breakfast teams from The Edge's Morning Madhouse trio and The Rock's Morning Rumble crew line up against one another yet again in the Best Metropolitan Breakfast Show award, joined this year by Jason Gunn, Dave Fitzgerald and Bridget De Goldi from Classic Hits Christchurch.
The Best Talk or Current Affairs Host category puts Newstalk ZB colleagues Paul Holmes and Mike Hosking against RadioLIVE's Marcus Lush. And in the Talkback section, Michael Laws (RadioLIVE), Danny Watson (Newstalk ZB) and duo Willy Jackson and John Tamihere face off.
Familiar names also from the smaller markets where the Best Regional Breakfast Show award will be decided between Angela Gordon and John Markby from More FM Northland, Mark Bunting from Classic Hits Waikato and Mike West, Gareth Pringle and Bel Crawford at More FM Manawatu.
The full list of finalists can be found here.
The winners are set to be announced via a webcast here on April 29.
